Nick (Tom Cruise) is searching for treasure in Iraq (as you do) when he stumbles across the tomb of the evil Princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella). Ahmanet has been exiled from Egypt and mummified alive, and the discovery of her tomb excites Jenny (Annabelle Wallis) and Dr Jeckyll (Russell Crowe), but when her body arrives in England a new evil is unleashed.
Not to be confused with the 1999 film of the same name, The Mummy (2017) is an action / thriller / comedy. Think of Gods of Egypt meets the music video for Michael Jackson's Thriller... but much messier. There are some great visuals and stunts (the zero gravity sequence in the plane is stunning) and there are some moments of suspense and excitement. There's also a clunky script, inconsistent performances are characterisations that are clumsy and confusing. Well worth seeing on the big screen, but best to wait for a Tuesday night.
