Caesar (Andy Serkis) is leading a band of apes looking for a safer life. But everything is threatened when the colonel (Woody Harrelson) arrives to try to eliminate the threat. Will the remaining human defeat the apes before a mystery disease wipes them all out, or will they end up wiping out each other?
The third film in the current franchise, War for the Planet of the Apes continues the story of Caesar in a world where power is shifting from human to animals. There are some good action sequences and the special effects (particularly the apes) make it easy to suspend disbelief. There’s an interesting story here, but it moves very slowly at time and there isn’t quite enough content to sustain the length of the film. There are a few little nods to link the narrative to the original 1968 film, but they become an unnecessary distraction rather than giving too much to the plot. Enjoyable, exciting and well worth seeing on the big screen.
