Paul (Joel Edgerton), his wife Sarah (Carmen Ejogo) and their teenage son Travis (Kelvin Harrison Jr) live in a remote house to distance themselves from a mysterious disease. Will (Christopher Abbott) breaks in looking for food and water to support his own family, bringing a new threat and an opportunity for the safety of them all.
It Comes at Night is a thriller full of twists, turns and moral dilemmas. There's a broader back story suggested but not explored that adds to the unsettling nature of the film. There's more than enough suspense to drive the intriguing plot, but it's the strange relationships between the intense characters that set everything on edge. It's violent and intriguing and there's an incompleteness that adds to the feeling of dread that hangs over the film like a cloud.
