The Guardians (Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel) are back, throwing themselves at their latest adventure. When they're pursued by the golden Sovereign people, they bump into Ego (Kurt Russell) who reveals himself as (gasp!) Peter's father. But Ego's motives aren't as innocent as they first seem, and the group (with a couple of unexpected allies) must find a way to bring peace to the galaxy.
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 carries on where the previous one left off with a mix of sci-fi adventure, action and comedy. The plot is a little confusing and disjointed in places but it eventually comes together. Appearances by Sylvester Stallone and David Hasselhoff (no, really!) add a bit of charm, and the script is witty though juvenile at times. As with the previous instalments, the look of the film is bold and retro (think 1980s Flash Gordon) to accompany the 70s soundtrack. Unfortunately it uses some predictable elements (love interests, countdown timers etc) and the film is far too long to sustain the story, but it's an enjoyable romp.
NOTE: It's a Marvel film, so don't rush out straight away when the closing credits begin.
