A group of hopefuls are trying out to be part of the Baywatch team, including disgraced former Olympic swimmer Matt (Zac Efron). Mitch (Dwayne Johnson) gives him a chance along with Ronnie (Jon Bass) and Summer (Alexandra Daddario), but the new recruits find themselves embroiled in a plot by Victoria (Priyanka Chopra) and her drug smuggling empire. Oh, and Ronnie gets his 'boner' stuck in a beach chair. No; really!
Baywatch is a spoof / parody / reboot of the television series of the same name. We knew this was never going to be art, and the humour is crude and juvenile, but it's a light romp that was actually more entertaining than we were expecting. It's riddled with all the cliches from the series (fear not, you don't need to know the original series to make any sense of this) and there are cameo appearances by David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson (for whatever reason). It doesn't look like anyone's working too hard to bring this together, and it's unlikely to appear in next year's Oscar nominations (whoops; our cultural snobbery is showing), but it's a light bit of fun that's done surprisingly well at the box office despite the overwhelmingly negative reviews.
