Fresh from their adventures in other movies, The Avengers reunite to battle their toughest foe ever... again in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) is joined by The Incredible Hulk (our favourite Mark Ruffalo from Foxcatcher and Infinitely Polar Bear; woof!), Thor (one of the Hemsworths who can speak and flex at the same time, though throw a piece of gum in the equation and it may be a different story), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (the unblinking Scarlett Johansson) and... um... the others to fight super robot Ultron and his minions of creepy robots. Expect lots of close ups of Robert Downy Jr inside his Iron Man outfit, the truth about the secret life of Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and a romantic subplot between Black Widow and the The Incredible Hulk. “Were you playing hide the zucchini?"
There is lots of excitement here and the special effects are really good, but don't expect to see any greatness here. The plot is messy and dull in places and the ensemble cast actually defuses the tension rather than build it. I'll admit that I have a bias towards superheroes from the DC universe (the Marvel ones don't really cut it for me) but the heroes and villains provides some campy fun amidst the clunky dialogue. It's ok but not quite as spectacular as it could've been, though I’m sure the collector cups will be magnificent (while stocks last). (ME)
