Years after the death of his daughter, doll maker Samuel (Anthony LaPaglia) opens his home to a nun (Stephanie Sigman) and a group of girls. The house is full of mysteries; Samuel's bedridden wife Esther (Miranda Otto) with her mask and the locked room upstairs. Janice (Talitha Bateman),recovering from polio, draws the attention of the strange presence within the house.
First seen in The Conjuring and it's own patchy stand-alone film, Annabelle: Creation is a classic horror/thriller with twists, turns and the creepiest doll since Chucky. The young cast (including Lulu Wilson from Ouija: Origin of Evil)do a great job in looking genuinely terrified in contrast to Anthony LaPaglia's stony-faced no-nonsense performance. Fans of the genre will enjoy the ride, though it's hard to create something completely original. That doesn't stop it from being an enjoyable film experience.
Note: be sure to stay right until the end of the closing credits. Those who have seen The Conjuring 2 will be in for a brief treat.
